20/07/2020 - A Final Update From Us

Hi Year 3,

We can't quite believe we've reached the final two days of Year 3! Where have the last four months gone? Four months ago, we waved you goodbye for what would be the last day of the school year. We are so proud of everything you have achieved since that day back in March. We would like to say a massive thank you to all those children that have been following our timetables, PowerPoints and having a go at the work we have set. We know it might not always have been easy to motivate yourselves but you've done it! We would also like to say a huge thank you to all the adults who have helped to support all the home learning that has gone on. One of the best things about being a teacher is seeing your work so it has meant a lot to us every time you've emailed us (or more recently, popped your work on Class Dojo). We are so excited to see you for the first morning back (we have lots of fun things planned). Even though you'll be going into Year 4 soon, we'll always be here to support you.

To celebrate our final two days of Year 3, we have organised some fun summer themed English, Maths and general activities (including some Art) for you to have a go at. Please see this weeks folder (WB 20/07/20) back on the Year 3 - Learning From Home - Homepage. Please send us any of the work you complete over the next two days! Alternatively, if you have any questions please message us on Class Dojo too.

You have been an amazing year group and all four of us will miss you very much. If we don't hear from you before Tuesday, we would like to wish you a fantastic summer holiday. Take some time over the next six weeks to relax and have some fun - you deserve it! Whatever you do with your summer keep safe.

Best wishes,

Miss Green, Mrs Shilcock, Mrs Williams and Mr Poole smiley

15/07/20 - Morning Year 3. Tomorrow (16th July) is Reading Together Day. There are lots of different activities going on throughout the day, all if which can be found if you click on this link:

https://readingagency.org.uk/news/media/reading-together-day-schedule---highlights-announced.html

Enjoy!

Mrs Shilcock

13/07/20 - An Accelerated Reader update:

Since lockdown, 3G have read 100,880 words, 3P have read 53,535 words and 3SW have read 30,579. Well done again 3G! It's great that the totals for each class have increased. Keep reading!

12/07/20 - Well, Year 3, it's out last full week of term before the Summer holidays. I have uploaded all of this weeks learning in the usual place. Please keep using Class Dojo to send me any pieces of work you do.

Happy home learning!

Mrs Shilcock

05/07/20 - Hello Year 3! Well done for all of your hard work during Art Week - you have produced some fantastic pieces, which we have loved seeing!

This week is slightly different again as we have Activity Day on Tuesday and Science Day on Thursday - all the powerpoints and activities will be found if you click on the relevant subject stars.

We have now launched Class Dojo and you should have received an email invite. Please do join as it is a great way to share work and messages. For further information, visit https://www.sawleyjunior.co.uk/class-dojo/

Please do email if you need anything at all: lshilcock@sawley-jun.derbyshire.sch.uk

Stay safe,

Mrs Shilcock

01/07/20 - Hello Year 3, I hope you are all enjoying art week. We have had a couple of pieces of art work emailed to us already. Please remember that we would like to see it! You can email us a photo of it, send us a photo on Class Dojo, or if your grown up is passing, drop it into school. We can't wait to see lots more lovely art work.

I hope the new way of showing the weekly lessons is ok and that you can all find everything.

Have a great week and stay safe,

Mrs Shilcock

20/06/20 - Hello everyone, I hope you are all well and are enjoying your time at home. We've seen a few more pieces of work emailed to us this week, and it's been great to see. Keep sending us your work!

I have attached work slightly differently this week. On the homepage you will see a new link 'WB 22/06/20' which will have all the work for the week and the timetable. I hope this works better for everyone and it will be easier to find the work.

Don't forget, you can still access accelerated reader from home. Click on the link and log on:

https://ukhosted19.renlearn.co.uk/6704339/

A few of you have logged in and taken some quizzes - well done! Remember, you can read any book at home, and as long as it's got a quiz available (search once you log in), you can take it. It doesn't matter if the book is not within your ZPD level.

Since lockdown began, 3G have read 43,272 words, 3P have read 30,657 words and 3SW have read 23,342 words. Well done, 3G!

I'll check again next week - let's see if we can get those totals higher! Please ask an adult to email me if you are unable to log on and I will help you.

Enjoy home learning this week, and I hope to see some more of your fantastic work.

Stay safe,

Mrs Shilcock

18/06/20 - Good morning Year 3. As you know, we are using the Oak Academy maths learning, however did you know that they also do an online assembly every Thursday at 11am? This week , the Duchess of Cambridge will lead the assembly and will speak about the importance of mental wellbeing among children. The theme of the Duchess’ assembly is ‘spread a little kindness'.

You can access the assembly live at 11am using the following link:

https://classroom.thenational.academy/assemblies/

You can also watch it at a later time if 11am isn't convenient.

Mrs Shilcock

24/05/20 - Hi everyone. We've made it to half-term! I hope you all enjoyed the lovely hot weather we had on Wednesday. I had great fun in the garden with my kids. Thank you for some of the Roman letters I have seen emailed - they are fantastic!

I have added to the 'Active' section of the May half-term activities some links to some workouts for each day of the week. Check them out and have a go - I enjoyed doing the Funky Friday disco with my daughter! See if you can get your adults at home to join in!

Make sure you take the week to relax and have a break from work - I'm sure your grown ups will need to too! Go for some walks in the woods with your family, bake, play with your siblings, camp in the garden and enjoy some time together. We miss you all and hopefully we can see you soon.

May Half Term!

This week is half term!  So I have not added the usual subjects for this week.  Instead there is a range of activities that you can pick and choose from.  You can choose to do whichever task you want, on whichever day you want to.

There are 3 main sections this week:

Mindfulness:  It is always important to keep ourselves mentally well.  There will be tasks that help us focus on being positive and well.

Get creative:  A range of tasks to be creative – remember ask an adult if it requires an mess or ingredients!

Get active!: It can be very tempting to watch lots of TV etc but it’s important to keep moving.  There is mixture of ways to get you going!

*You will find the folders ('Mindfulness', 'Get creative!' and 'Get active!') full of resources on the main Year 3 Home Learning Page under 'May Half Term'.

Have fun!

Miss Green smiley

19/04/20 - Hello everyone. I can't believe it's been a month since school's closed. I hope you are all staying home and staying safe. I've really enjoyed reading some of the things you have been getting up to in the Sawley Lockdown Memory Book which Mrs Burton created. I will be adding my contribution at some point in the next few days, so look out for it!

Once again, I have added a Maths and English powerpoint for this week, with some activities for you to try. Please don't hesitate to email your teacher if you need any help with anything. There is also a science activity for this week.

Linking with our Egyptian learning before school closed, look at this virtual tour of a 5000 year old tomb!

https://my.matterport.com/show/?m=d42fuVA21To

14/04/20 - Hi everyone. Well, we're into week 4. How are you all getting on? We miss each and every one of you, and although it feels like a nice break, we really can't wait to get back to teaching you all!

I have attached some links to Week 4 English and Maths on the Learning from Home Year 3 page. Maths is focusing on shape and English is looking at Egyptian Gods and Goddesses and writing an information leaflet.

Again, there is no requirement to complete all of the tasks. Feel free to email us anything you have done so far.

Hope you are all staying safe!

Mrs Shilcock

06/04/20 - Hello all, it's the start of Week 3 and what would have been our Easter holidays. Whilst we understand that you still need a break from school work, we have put together some fun Easter activities for you to have a go at. Just click on the links under the Easter heading on our Year 3 Learning from Home page. Don't forget, you can email us if you'd like to show us anything you have done. Happy Easter!

04/04/20 - Miss Green saw this time capsule idea and it looks really good! We think it's a lovely activity to do with your family.

30/03/20

Hello Year 3. We're into week 2 and we hope you've had a great first week at home with your families. Don't worry at all if you haven't done much home learning yet. We understand that it is very different getting used to being at home. Don't forget to still use your outside spaces and have a daily walk to get some fresh air.

I have added a new powerpoint for Maths, along with some activites. And also the same for English. Week 2 of Science is uploaded.

I'll share some links to various websites/activities which you can try at home this week too.

The first is a link to White Rose Home Learning

https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-3/

Your teachers use White Rose a lot for Maths lessons, and during the school closures, they are offering a Maths activity each day. You watch a video, answer some questions. There's even an answer sheet so you can check you have got them all correct.

Don't forget, there is no requirement to do these activities, they are simply there for guidance. However, feel free to do them all if you wish! Also, you can suggest activities you might want to share with the rest of the Year group by emailing us. We will then put the links on here.

25/03/20

Hello, I hope you are all well. I've been creating some rainbows with my own children at home, and we stuck them on our window today. Tomorrow we are going on a walk around a few of the streets where we live, to search for other rainbows. I'm sure some of you have seen this around, or have even made one already yourself, but I thought it might be a nice activity for you to do at home this week. I've put up a couple of photos as examples below. When you are finished, take a photo and email it to your teacher(s). They would love to see! Scroll down for a copy of the email addresses.

23/03/20  Hello Year 3! Hope you are all staying safe and enjoying some time in the sunshine with your families!

I have added a Maths fractions Powerpoint under the Maths activities section with some fractions worksheets work for you to complete this week. There is no requirement to do them - you choose the activities which will benefit you as learners the most (if you prefer to do the other activities under the Maths heading, that is fine). We have learnt about fractions not too long ago, so hopefully it will all be familiar to you.

I have also added an English Powerpoint under the English activities sections with some work on The Egyptian Cinderella book. Again, you choose the activities which will benefit you the most.

Audible have announced that whilst schools are closed, all stories are free to stream on your desktop, laptop, phone or tablet so you can enjoy listening to a range of books whilst you are at home! https://stories.audible.com/start-listen I have been listening to some of these with my own children and they have really enjoyed it!

Many of you may have already seen that The Body Coach (Joe) is doing PE lessons at 9am everyday on YouTube for children to join in with! The videos are still up there later if you prefer to do it at a different time! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rz0go1pTda8 I will be doing this everyday too!

Don’t forget, we are always here to help you, and not just with anything school related. If you would like to email us, please do (ask permission from a grown up first). Our email addresses are:

lshilcock@sawley-jun.derbyshire.sch.uk

kwilliams@sawley-jun.derbyshire.sch.uk

bpoole1@ sawley-jun.derbyshire.sch.uk

egreen@sawley-jun.derbyshire.sch.uk

We’ll check our emails everyday and promise to reply! Even though it's not in person, we're still here, even if it is to just say hello!

Hope to see you all soon!
