Admissions

Admissions to Sawley Junior School

Admissions to Sawley Junior School are processed by the Local Authority as part of the Derbyshire Coordinated Admissions Scheme.

The Admissions link below will open the Derbyshire County Council Primary Admissions page where you will find guidance about application dates and access to online application forms for Infant and Junior places.  Applications can also be made via post or over the phone.

A place at Sawley Infant School cannot guarantee a place at Sawley Junior School.

We are two separate schools, each part of the ONE Academy Trust multi-academy trust.

The ONE Academy Trust Board of Trustees is the Admissions Authority for all the schools in ONE Academy Trust.

Changing school at other times (in-year admissions)

If you're moving to Derbyshire or want to apply for your child to move schools other than at the normal admission or transfer time, you can find out how to change schools on the DCC website in-year admissions page.  Derbyshire County Council handle our in-year' admissions.

School preference

You have a legal right to express a preference for which school you want your child to go to. This isn't the same as being able to choose.

Where you have told us of a preference for our school and there are places, we'll try to offer you a place. However, there's no automatic right to a place at a particular school and it may not always be possible to offer a place.

Appeals

If you're unable to get a place for your child in your preferred school you can make an appeal against the decision. Your appeal will be heard by an appeal panel independent of the school and the local authority.

If you're unhappy with the decision you can make a primary school admissions appeal

In-year admissions only

  • If your appeal relates to an in-year admission you should submit your appeal within 28 days of being told that your application was unsuccessful.

2024/25 application round

  • If your appeal is for a child transferring to a junior school or starting an infant or primary school in September 2024 and you are told of the decision on 16th April 2024 (National Offer Day) you should submit your appeal by 15th May 2024.

  • If you are told of an infant, junior or primary decision after 16th April 2024 or it relates to an in-year admission you should submit your appeal within 28 days of being told that your application was unsuccessful.

Further information about admission appeals can be found on GOV.UK.

Outcome of the statutory consultation on the admission arrangements for Sawley Junior School (2025/2026)

The trustees of ONE Academy Trust consulted on proposed changes to the admissions arrangements for Sawley Junior School to take effect for admissions in 2025/2026.

The changes to the policy are:

  1. The change of Admissions Authority to ONE Academy Trust due to the merger of the former Believe Academy Trust and the Willows Academy Trust and the associated name change to ONE Academy Trust.

  2. A reformatting of the admissions policy and arrangements to provide a common format across ONE Academy Trust schools and to ensure clarity of the statutory Fair Access Protocols that apply to admissions.

All other criteria and priorities remain in line with the current published admissions arrangements for Sawley Junior School.

The admissions arrangements for Sawley Junior School are available to access here on our school website.  Copies are available on request.

The consultation ran from Monday 20th November 2023 to Monday 8th January 2024.

After the consultation period, no responses were received and the changes are therefore implemented for 2025/26.

Outcome of the statutory consultation on the admission arrangements for Sawley Junior School (2024/2025)

The directors of Willows Academy Trust (now ONE Academy Trust) consulted on the admissions arrangements for Sawley Junior School in Autumn 2022 for admissions in 2024/25, in accordance with the statutory requirement set out in the School Admissions Code for schools to consult on their admissions arrangements every 7 years.  The consultation ran from 21 October 2022 to 9 December 2022.  No responses were received.  As the admissions authority for ONE Academy Trust, the Board of Directors agreed that no change would be made to the admissions arrangements for Sawley Junior School for 2024/25.
