What you will find below is historic news of events and activities here at Sawley.

From June 2019, most of our celebration news has been posted on ClassDojo or Twitter.

  • Book Week 2015

    Thu 19 Feb 2015

Our Book Week this week will begin on Monday 2nd March 2015. During this week we have planned plenty of fun reading opportunities and activities to get the children excited about reading. Our theme is Heroes and Villains.

Don’t forget, the ‘Reading in an unusual spot’ competition will end on Monday 2nd March 2015, and winners will be announced during this week. Make sure children hand their photo to their class teacher, with their name, class and book they are reading written on the back.

On Tuesday 3rd March 2015, authors - Cid and Mo - will be visiting our school to talk about reading, writing and their series of books about the Janksters.

The Janksters are two boys who love to get into mischief and play practical jokes. The first book involves a talking slug! Cid and Mo will be bringing along a few jokes to share with the children! Beware!

If you would like to buy a book, Cid and Mo will be returning to school on Monday 9th March 2015 to personally sign copies to children. The books cost £5. A letter will be sent out on the day of the initial visit with a form to fill in.

Finally, as part of Book Week, we are inviting children to dress up as a book character on Friday 6th March 2015. The costume must reflect the theme: Heroes and Villains. Children may want to dress up as a hero e.g. Harry Potter, Katniss Everdeen or Matilda. On the other hand, they may wish to be a villain for the day and dress up as Snape, Captain Hook or Mrs Trunchbull. Feel free to think creatively e.g. if your child came to school with some props as clues or wearing one or two key items rather than coming in full costume, that would be absolutely fine.

IMPORTANT NEWS - Changes to the way we assess your child

From September2014, the Government Department for Education (DfE) made a huge change in the way that children in schools are to be assessed. This is a new way of thinking for schools, and assessment will look very different to how it has done for the past 20 years. Included with your child’s report will be a guide to hopefully give you some clear information about the changes that are happening in Education and what that means for the children here at Sawley.

For more information on the new assessment arrangements, join us at Open Evening where we will be on hand to discuss assessment in more detail with you.
