A huge WELL DONE to our basketball team who won the competition yesterday and qualified for the Derbyshire County Final on March 6th.
We are extremely proud of the children who were perfect 'sportspersons' and excellent ambassadors for our school.

'Tis the season to be jolly - unless it snows heavily, roads freeze over and the paths turn to solid ice....
All schools have recently been asked to consider access and closure procedures during adverse weather. As a joint site, Sawley Junior School and Sawley Infants & Nursery School have considered a joint policy regarding Adverse Weather (snow and ice).
The policy sets out some of the considerations used to inform any closure decision and sets out procedures for informing parents.
It also sets out the schools priorities for the clearance of pathways. Click the link to read the full policy.
Friday 15th November
This Friday, the children will be wearing their pyjamas to school in support of the children of Honduras.
Over the last few years, we have quietly donated school items to this worthwhile charity through a link Mrs Wood has with this charity in Derby. Years ago, we started by sending our old roller blackboards. Since then we have donated furniture, old textbooks and smaller classroom items. This was something the school did without advertising our contributions to the local community.
This year, The School Council, after consulting with all the children, have decided to make Honduras their charity of choice. Yes – it is Children in Need this Friday: our children have decided to send their donations to a particular group of children ‘in need’ and to strike a link with this worthwhile cause. They wanted to see where their money was actually going and to see what it was actually buying.
Donations will be sent via the CHTrust who are a Christian charity based in Derby. Once a year, they send out containers to Honduras to help with all aspects of family life from education to basic living supplies. It costs around £50 to send a child to school in Honduras, and this is what our money will be helping with. £50 provides a child with uniform, shoes, trainers, school bag, and sufficient equipment to attend a state school for one year.
This is the children’s decision, and I would like to thank you in anticipation of your support.

Day Four – Apologies for not updating over the last two days however ‘Computer said no!’
Well on with the news…
Comments such as ‘Awesome’ ‘Amazing’, ‘Terrific’, ‘Epic’ ‘Best ever’ and ‘Never been this muddy before!’ reflect the children’s comments about the past few days. We are all eating very well and been kept very busy. So far we have abseiled, problem solved, created environmental art, guided each other as we crawled through the blind trail, attended the campfire and played laser quest…oh and made sure we have brushed our teeth each night.
Every one of us has faced up to challenges and risen to what we have been asked to do, we are very, very proud of each and every one of your children!
This evening we will be doing our best to squeeze our clothes back into our cases, inbetween completing the scrapheap challenge!
Children are all settled and recharging their batteries for our adventures tomorrow. Making sure we are all creating lots of washing to keep you busy on our return!!!!
Looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow and telling you endless tales of adventure!!!
Good Night

A group of parents have asked us to convey the following message to Sawley residents -
Are you fed up with the state of the playground in Sawley Park?
You’re not alone! A group of local parents have created an action group - The Friends of Sawley Park - in order to access funding to improve this much loved play area.
It’s important that you and your family have your say now about how this area can be improved, so please complete the online survey by visiting: srvy.it/12EAFcQ. If you would prefer to fill in a paper copy, or would like to get involved contact Jackie Brewster at jackiebrewster123@btinternet.com, or 'grab' her on the playground at home time.
You can also be kept up to date by ‘liking’ the Friends of Sawley Park Facebook page www.facebook.com/friendsofsawleypark.
