Harvest Festival 2013
This year for our Harvest Festival for all pupils will be on Wednesday 9th October at school and will include a performance from the “Sonshine puppet group” .
We are asking all pupils to bring a non-perishable donation on the day, i.e. tins and packets, which will be donated to the local food bank and to the Canaan Trust. (They are currently inundated with tins of beans and tomato soup so we would ask if possible for these not to be donated).
Many thanks for your support.
Many parents have asked us about the outcome of our recent Ofsted Inspection. Unfortunately, we are not allowed to share outcomes with you until the final report has been produced. We should have this within 10 working days and will let you know as soon as this report is placed on the Ofsted website.
May I also take this opportunity to say how proud we are of the way the children have conducted themselves over the last few days. They have been shining examples of all areas of our school vision and the inspection team were most complimentary about standards of behaviour and the way the children respected the school and each other.
As the headteacher, I would say "yes", the children were great, but actually, they're great every day and they just conducted themselves as they normally would!
Friday 27th September will be a non-uniform day to say thank you.
Swimming lessons – Autumn term 2013
We plan to start swimming lessons on Monday 9th September until 24th October. All children will be expected to take part.
Please note: Not every child in each class will be able to swim every week due to limited space in the pool; your child’s teacher will tell them which weeks to bring their kits.
All children will need a one piece costume, towel and swim hat every week and all earrings must be removed. Swim hats are available to purchase from the office at £1 each.

Dinner Money Increase
CAYA Catering Services will be submitting a report to Cabinet on 30th July 2013 proposing to increase the recommended selling price of school meals.
If approved (Which is likely) from 4th September 2013, primaty school meals will incease to £1.95, and increase of 5p per meal. The weekly cost for 5 school means will be £9.75 or £72.15 for the next half term. Please note if the correct amount is not sent, change will not be returned but carried over to the following week.
Our children have nothing but praise for the current standard of the school meals provided here at Sawley and this can all be attributed to the skill, attention to detail and dedication of Hart and her team in the kitchen.
If you are unsure whether your child would like school dinners- why not try a trial week? Please speak to Mrs Whitmore or Mrs Merriman in the office to arrange this.
Please remember, even if your child does not wish to have school dinners you are eligible for the Free School Meals, please register this as this provides extra income for your child and the school. Any queries regarding this - Mrs Whitmore or Mrs Merriman would again be pleased to help and advise.

Brassed Off? - Certainly not! - Fri 28 Jun 2013
A massive congratulations to our Y4 pupils who have throughout the year been busy blowing their trumpets, tombones, cornets, euphoniumes and baratones! Last week the children were able to show off their newly acquired skills to their parents and rest of the school, who were delighted to hear a fantastic rendition of the Scooby Doo theme tune.
Last night some of our children performed in Kirk Hallam, alongside other children to form a group ensemble. We have heard some fantastic comments about this musical opportunity and our children's contributution to the concert last night. May we thank the children, parents, music tutors and our very own Mrs McDowall for supporting the event.
The children seem to have thoroughly enjoyed this opportunity to learn to play an instrument and a good number have decided to continue to develop their skills, with subsidised group music lessons. We look forward to hearing them continue to progress.
Once again, we wish to say how proud we are of our children here at Sawley who have represented our school and done us proud!!
Awards we have acheived so far.
